Sherry Jennings is an experienced leader who is dedicated to doing what is right for Mineral County. She brings a fresh perspective and valuable experience to the role as your Commissioner.

As a retired business executive, she has extensive leadership experience and does not have any conflicts of interest. Sherry does not run a local business and she does not have any long standing alliances with friends or family in the county. She looks at things objectively and raises questions without inherent biases. Sherry loves Mineral County and wants to make a difference.

Do What’s Right for Mineral County

  • Sherry has a deep appreciation for Mineral County and our strong sense of community. The way people come together to help is truly unique. There are deep roots and strong commitments in our volunteer organizations. She volunteers with the Walker Lake Working Group to save Walker Lake and Search and Rescue, both organizations bring people together to make a difference. That sense of community prompted her to want to learn more about what is happening in Mineral County. Sherry attends the County Commissioner meetings, as well as various other county meetings. She has watched and learned about the people and processes. She is dedicated to doing what is right for Mineral County.

  • Sherry is a retired executive from one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plans. She was the Vice President of Underwriting and was responsible for $34B in revenue, led a department of over 100 employees and has experience managing budgets the size of Mineral County’s budget. In addition to being very good with numbers, her primary responsibility was to make effective decisions while balancing competing demands. She constantly balanced four main areas:

    • Demands from customers such as Amazon, Google, or PG&E

    • Needs from departments and employees

    • Staying within budget and understanding financial implications

    • Adherence to policy and regulatory constraints

    Decision Making for Mineral County, requires balancing the same basic four areas:

    • Do what’s right for Mineral County and our residents

    • Needs of the county departments and employees

    • Make sure Mineral County is financially stable and stays within budget

    • Ensure we are following ordinances and regulatory constraints

  • Sherry stands for doing what is right for Mineral County. She has a high level of integrity and honesty. The job of a County Commissioner is to make decisions that are BEST for the county, based on the NEEDS of the county and our residents. She is passionate about:

    • Improving our aging infrastructure

    • Retaining our small town environment

    • Growing at a sustainable rate so we can keep jobs local and bring more shopping options to our area

  • Sherry is running as a Non-Partisan. She makes educated and informed decisions, and does not vote along party lines.

    In terms of her political beliefs, Sherry believes our government is too big, and there is a general lack of personal accountability that has been growing in our country that contributes to expanded government control.

  • Sherry is from Pennsylvania, and has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Lafayette College. She has spent time in Georgia and California for her career. Four years ago, she fell in love, retired and moved to Mineral County to be with the man she loves, Jim Holland.

  • Sherry is running for Mineral County Commissioner Seat B.
